Truth is harder than a lie.

Isn't it sad how easy it is to lie? When I first heard the above line from the song, "If We're Honest," it hit me just how true it is. For us, telling the truth is more difficult than simply making up a story.
That's not true with God. He is truthful. One hundred percent, all the time. He stands in stark contrast to us who are tempted daily to be untruthful in a number of ways.
The book of John, specifically, is full of verses about God's truthfulness:
- John 3:33 - "He who has received His testimony has certified that God is true" (NKJV, emphasis added).
- John 17:3 - "And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent" (NKJV, emphasis added).
- John 17:17 - "Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth" (NKJV, emphasis added).
Even though it's difficult for us to be truthful because it goes against our sin nature, we're commanded to be truthful just as our Heavenly Father is truthful. And we can be truthful because He is truthful and has given us the help of the Holy Spirit to obey!
Today's Assignment: Let's challenge ourselves today. Choose an area in your life where you're tempted (or have even given into the desire!) to lie, even if it's "just" the lie of omission. Confess your sin to the Lord, repent, and move forward in truth. Be sure to confess this weakness to your husband or another mature believer and ask him or her to keep you accountable!
