In our world today, there doesn't seem to be much peace, does there? Whether it's countries on the verge of war with one another or family members who are at odds, much of what we experience in our lives is anything but peaceful.
How wonderful to know, then, that one of God's attributes is peace! In fact, He delights in peace. In the Old Testament, we see lots of instruction about peace offerings, and in the New Testament, Jesus offers His peace to the believers (see John 14:27). In a world full of chaos and upheaval, it's incredibly comforting to know that God is peaceful!
The Bible also has more to say about peace:
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace..." (Galatians 5:22a, NKJV).
As believers, part of the fruit of the Spirit is peacefulness. It's not always easy to be at peace when life gets turned upside down, but having peace in hard circumstances is a mark of maturity for Christians. It sets us apart from the unsaved and helps us be a better witness for the Lord.
I'm so thankful that the Lord hasn't simply told us to have peace, but along with that commandment He has provided an excellent example for us to follow and has given us the help of the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 2:14 puts it best: "For He Himself is our peace" (NKJV). We serve an awesome, compassionate, peaceful God!
Today's Assignment: Do you struggle with comprehending God's peacefulness or with finding your peace in Him alone? If so, choose three verses to memorize about His peace. Not only will memorizing God's Word help give you peace, it can help you be a peacemaker for those around you, too.
